Dear Parents,
We are teaching our students how to be proactive in their own problem solving skills. When students are having problems with other students, we encourage them to use an I Message to try to solve the problem on their own.
For example:
"I don't like it when you throw wood chips at me. Can you please stop."
We also teach them that if their I Message doesn't stop the problem or if the problem is serious such as fighting, bullying or someone is in danger that they should come quickly to a teacher or adult for help.
Please encourage your child to solve their problems by communicating in a positive manner. Using an I Message is a great life skill that we would love for them to learn.

Read Like a Star!
It is called:
"Read Like a Star"
The goal for each student is 100 mins. a week.
In 1st grade, this may sound like a lot, but we ask that your child reads 15-20 minutes every night.
You can also count the minutes that you read to your child.
Each student will received a bookmark. Reading minutes are recorded on the bookmark and they are due each Thursday.
Please discuss this great program with your child and the importance of reading. You should be receiving an orange contract note in your child's folder. As well as your child's bookmark to record minutes.
Readers are Leaders!
So Read Like a Star!Room Parent Social

Walk More in Four
Our school is participating in Walk More in Four.
Students are encouraged to walk or bike to school 3 times a week for the next 4 weeks.
A flyer/ tracking sheet should be coming home with your child this week.
The challenge/ contest will end on Thursday September 29th.
If students track their progress and turn in their form, they will be entered to win a bike, a scooter or a helmet.
If your child lives too far to walk or bike, they can do this around their neighborhood after school.
Please encourage safe practices such as crossing at the crosswalk, looking both ways and wearing a helmet.
This is sponsored by SNAP and UDOT.
