Technology ROCKS!

We are lucky enough to have extra funding for technology at our school because of our Title 1 status. Right now, the 1st grade has 5 iPads that we are rotating throughout the classes each day.

Spell-A-Thon!

It is time again for the Coral Cliffs annual spell-a-thon fundraiser. The spell-a-thon gives each child the opportunity to raise money for our school while becoming better spellers along the way! There are acouple things that you are going to want to know to help your child with the spell-a-thon.

1. Students will have one week to raise pledges and study for the test (these words will take the place of our normal spelling words next week.)
2. The spelling test will be given in class Friday September 30th.
3. Tests will be graded and sent home that same day.
4. All collections need to be brought to school in their spell-a-thon folder no later than October 5th in order to be eligible for great prizes! - First grade alone will have five grand prize winners for the five students who raise the most money.

If each child raises $20.00 we will easily reach out goal and Mr. Hogan and Mr. Andrus will each take a pie in the face!

Please encourage your child to collect pledges for each word that they spell correctly. More information will be coming home on Friday including your child's collection envelope!

Remembering September 11th...

We had the opportunity to talk about September 11th a week or so ago in our first grade class. We also discussed the flag that day and what it means to be an American. Together we created our own American flag to show how proud we all are to live in this beautiful country!

PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN....

We are PROUD TO BE AMERICANS!!! In honor of September 11th and those thousands of people who died during those terrible attacks we found it fitting to teach your children about that day 10 years ago. Your child knew a lot about that day...what a tribute to you as parents! Your children were amazing, respectful, and encouraged to stand up for their country. I was brought to tears as we watched a heartfelt video clip of that horrible day....and at the end your children started singing "I AM PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN!" They meant it with all of their hearts and I know that they understand what this day means to Americans! So, thank you from the bottom of my heart for allowing me to be their teacher. They taught me a lot that day about how even children can be proud of their country and heritage!

Mrs. Staley - August Awards

Miss Leadership, Miss Reading & Mr. Math - Congrats!

Using an "I Message" to Solve Problems

Dear Parents,

We are teaching our students how to be proactive in their own problem solving skills. When students are having problems with other students, we encourage them to use an I Message to try to solve the problem on their own.

For example:
"I don't like it when you throw wood chips at me. Can you please stop."

We also teach them that if their I Message doesn't stop the problem or if the problem is serious such as fighting, bullying or someone is in danger that they should come quickly to a teacher or adult for help.

Please encourage your child to solve their problems by communicating in a positive manner. Using an I Message is a great life skill that we would love for them to learn.

Mrs. Staley - Turtle Races

We had lots of fun in class reading The Tortoise and the Hare and then having our own turtle races!
